WeRide and Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group, a Geely subsidiary, will equip their jointly developed Robotaxi GXR with RoboSense’s digital LiDAR system. Production is set to begin in Q3 2026, with 2,000 factory-installed units planned for domestic and international markets.

GEN8 Perception Architecture
The Robotaxi GXR runs WeRide’s GEN8 autonomous driving suite. At its core is the Sensor Suite 8.0 (SS8.0), built around two RoboSense LiDAR units.
The EM4 serves as the primary LiDAR. Launched in early 2025, it was the first digital LiDAR on the market. It now supports up to 2,160 customizable beams. Its 600-meter detection range gives the system over 70% more reaction time in high-speed driving scenarios.
The E1 handles blind-spot detection. It is a fully solid-state, automotive-grade digital LiDAR with a 120° x 90° field of view. RoboSense describes it as the only mass-produced solid-state LiDAR designed specifically for near-field blind-spot elimination.
Combined LiDAR Configuration
The EM4-plus-E1 setup pairs long-range precision with 360-degree near-field coverage. According to RoboSense, the configuration maintains reliable performance in extreme weather, including heavy rain and dense fog.
Global Fleet Expansion
WeRide currently operates commercial robotaxi services in five cities: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh, Beijing, and Guangzhou. As of January 2026, the GXR fleet totaled 1,023 vehicles globally.
The addition of 2,000 upgraded GXR units will push the operational fleet past 2,600 robotaxis. RoboSense says it maintains partnerships with over 90% of the world’s leading L4 autonomous driving companies.
