WeRide WRD 3.0 Powers 2027 GAC AION i60

GAC AION has launched the 2027 AION i60, a five-seat BEV and REEV SUV running WeRide WRD 3.0, moving the eight-time competition-winning L2++ ADAS into mass production.

GAC AION has launched the 2027 AION i60, a five-seat SUV offered in battery-electric and range-extended variants and running WeRide WRD 3.0, the company’s one-stage end-to-end driver-assistance system. WeRide says the i60 marks WRD 3.0’s transition to mass production, following the AION N60 earlier this year. The system has won eight championships at the China Urban Intelligent Driving Competition, according to the company.

What Does WRD 3.0 Enable on the AION i60?

The company describes WRD 3.0 as delivering a range of L2++ intelligent driving features on the i60:

  • Navigate on Autopilot (NDA) activation directly from a parked state
  • Navigation-free assisted driving in park and campus environments
  • Remote parking assistance
  • Three-point turn assistance
  • Parking-space-to-Parking-space (P2P) navigation assistance in ground-level parking facilities

From L4 Operations to L2++ Production

WeRide positions WRD 3.0 as the product of nearly ten years of Level 4 autonomous driving work brought into the L2++ segment. The company says its driverless fleet has operated in more than 60 cities across 13 countries, accumulating experience with varied road environments, climates, traffic conditions, and rare edge cases.

Three in-house platforms underpin the system, according to WeRide: WeRide One, its universal autonomous driving technology platform; WeRide WITT, a physical-AI cognitive foundation model; and WeRide GENESIS, a general-purpose simulation model. The company says these translate its validated L4 capabilities into scene understanding and continuous decision-making for mass-produced passenger vehicles.

WeRide claims the result is a system that anticipates changes in traffic dynamics and delivers assistance that closely aligns with human driving intuition, with performance approaching that of an experienced human driver across a wide range of scenarios. The company also says the platform continues on-road validation outside China through its work with Bosch in Europe and Japan.

Expanding the GAC Partnership

The i60 is the second GAC AION model to carry WRD 3.0 after the N60. WeRide characterizes the collaboration as moving from single-model validation to scaled deployment across multiple vehicle platforms, and says it will continue working with GAC AION and other GAC Group brands to expand WRD 3.0 to additional models.
