Austin riders can now experience the future of transportation by being matched with a Waymo autonomous vehicle (AV) on the Uber app. This partnership combines Waymo’s advanced self-driving technology with Uber’s widely used ride-hailing platform, paving the way for a transportation future that is increasingly electric and autonomous. The service launches in Austin with plans to expand to Atlanta, offering riders a safe, innovative, and convenient travel option.
Key Highlights:
- Request your ride, opt in for a Waymo: Riders requesting UberX, Uber Green, Uber Comfort, or Uber Comfort Electric may be matched with a Waymo fully autonomous all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicle at no extra cost. Before dispatch, riders can choose to accept or switch to a non-AV ride.
- Familiar app, new experience: Using the Uber app, riders can unlock the vehicle, open the trunk, and start their trip. 24/7 customer support is available via the app and inside the Waymo vehicle.
- Safety is a top priority: All AVs on Uber adhere to strict safety guidelines. Waymo’s vehicles leverage tens of millions of miles of real-world driving experience and advanced sensors to navigate complex road conditions safely.
- Update your Ride Preferences: Riders can increase their chances of a Waymo match by opting in through the Ride Preferences section in the Uber app settings.
- Operating area: Waymo rides are initially available across 37 square miles of Austin, covering areas from Hyde Park to Downtown to Montopolis, with expansion planned.
- Atlanta is up next! Uber employees are testing Waymo AVs in Atlanta, preparing for a public rollout on the Uber app.

This collaboration reflects a shared vision of transforming transportation. At Uber, the goal is to reimagine how the world moves, integrating autonomous vehicles alongside human drivers to enhance affordability, sustainability, and accessibility.
