On June 27, 2025, Singapore’s Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow visited Pony.ai’s Guangzhou R&D Center, hosted by CEO James Peng and CTO Tiancheng Lou. Discussions centered on China’s autonomous driving advancements and strategies for Singapore’s adoption. Siow emphasized that Punggol trials will help determine suitable vehicle types, with collaboration from operators and autonomous driving firms. The delegation included representatives from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) and other key transport associations, highlighting the government’s commitment to this technology.
Pony.ai’s Strategic Vision
Pony.ai sees Singapore as a key market due to its mature transport infrastructure, high public acceptance of new technologies, and favorable government policies. James Peng noted that cost efficiency and technological maturity are critical for large-scale robotaxi commercialization. Pony.ai’s seventh-generation autonomous driving system, unveiled in April 2025, achieves a 70% cost reduction, enabling mass production with partners like Toyota, BAIC, and GAC. The company plans to scale its fleet to 1,000 robotaxis by year-end.
Partnership with ComfortDelGro
The collaboration with ComfortDelGro, formalized through a July 2024 MoU, builds on a successful Guangzhou pilot program launched in March.
