ETX: Redefining High-Performance Lidar Capability

The centerpiece of Hesai’s showcase is the ETX lidar, a system engineered to redefine the capabilities of high-performance sensors for L3 and L4 autonomous vehicles. The ETX features an unmatched 800-channel count, a ranging capability of 400 meters at 10% reflectivity, and an exceptionally fine resolution of 0.05° × 0.025°. These specifications are achieved while adhering to Class 1 eye safety standards.

This performance is made possible by Hesai’s fourth-generation technology platform, which includes three core innovations:

  • Photon Vector Technology (PVT): Custom high-power VCSEL laser arrays enhance photon transmission efficiency, boosting ranging capability by 30%.
  • Addressable Photon Isolation (API): This technology mitigates channel blooming common in other lidars, ensuring high-precision point clouds, and achieves a 95% reduction in the false positive rate in difficult conditions.
  • Intelligent Point Cloud Engine (IPE): Leveraging quantum optics principles, the engine removes over 99.9% of environmental noise from elements like rain, fog, or dust.

Despite its powerful performance, the ETX maintains a compact design with a 32 mm height, which is 35% smaller than comparable products, making it ideal for discreet integration behind a vehicle’s windshield. A global OEM has already selected the ETX for multiple vehicle models, with mass production expected to begin in 2026.

Advanced Windshield Integration Partnerships

To demonstrate the ETX’s seamless integration, Hesai is collaborating with leading automotive glass manufacturers AGC Wideye and Saint-Gobain Sekurit. These partnerships allow Hesai to present a live point cloud demonstration of the ETX operating from behind a vehicle windshield at its IAA Mobility booth.

“Saint-Gobain partnered with Hesai to push the boundaries of lidar integration behind the windshield, combining optical performance with seamless in-cabin design,” stated A. Jaafar, Innovation Manager of Saint-Gobain Sekurit. “This solution empowers automakers to deliver safer, smarter, and more elegant ADAS systems at industrial scale.”

FTX: Completing the L3 Autonomous Driving Puzzle

Hesai is also presenting the FTX, a fully solid-state blind-spot lidar designed to provide the crucial perception needed for safe L3 autonomous driving. The FTX uses solid-state electronic scanning to deliver an expansive 180° x 140° field of view, offering more than double the resolution of its predecessor. It is also 66% lighter, with a small optical window of just 50 × 30 mm, allowing for flexible integration.

The FTX is engineered to detect low-lying obstacles like road posts and supports functions such as autonomous parking and safe lane changes. When paired with the long-range ETX, it forms the Hesai Infinity Eye B solution, delivering panoramic perception for advanced autonomous systems. The FTX is also slated for mass production in 2026, further solidifying Hesai’s role in advancing the future of mobility.
