Hesai Group, a leading lidar technology company, has announced that its AT128 lidar has been chosen for the first L4 production-ready Robotaxi developed by Didi Autonomous Driving and GAC Aion. The vehicle, unveiled at the 2025 GAC Tech Day, is scheduled for mass production in 2025 and will begin deployment in 2026.
Key Highlights
- Hesai’s AT128 lidar selected for Didi and GAC Aion’s L4 Robotaxi
- AT128 provides 360° blind-spot-free perception with high resolution and long detection range
- Robotaxi to enter mass production in 2025, deployment in 2026
- Collaboration combines GAC Aion’s safety platform with Didi’s autonomous driving technology
The new Robotaxi model is equipped with four Hesai AT128 lidar sensors, which are central to its perception system. The AT128 lidar boasts an industry-leading 1200×128 resolution, capturing 1.53 million data points per second. This enables detailed and reliable perception in complex driving environments. With a detection range of up to 200 meters and a 120° field of view, the lidar can detect obstacles early, enhancing safety in both urban and highway settings.
The Robotaxi integrates a total of 33 sensors, utilizing a heterogeneous sensor fusion architecture for real-time, 360° situational awareness. The four AT128 lidar sensors enhance depth perception, ensuring safe navigation through complex traffic scenarios.
David Li, Co-Founder and CEO of Hesai, expressed pride in supporting the L4 Robotaxi project. He highlighted the collaboration as an example of how advanced lidar technology can integrate with autonomous driving systems to transform transportation.
The L4 Robotaxi is the result of a multi-year strategic partnership between Didi Autonomous Driving and GAC Aion. It combines GAC Aion’s safety redundancy platform for L4 autonomous driving with Didi’s hardware and software for autonomous vehicles.
