Aptiv Launches Next-Gen Radars for ADAS

Aptiv’s Gen 8 radars redefine automotive perception with unmatched detection accuracy, 4D awareness, and AI-ready architecture—advancing the future of intelligent, software-defined vehicle automation.

Aptiv PLC has unveiled its Gen 8 radar technology, representing a major advancement in ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) performance and perception. The new system is designed to deliver class-leading range, resolution, and object detection in diverse driving and parking scenarios, expanding the boundaries of vehicle automation.

Key Highlights

  • Next-generation radar performance for complex, real-world driving environments
  • Enhanced detection range and 4D perception for superior object classification
  • Dual-mode corner radar improves short-range accuracy in urban and parking scenarios
  • Integration with Aptiv PULSE Sensor for combined radar and camera-based perception
  • AI- and machine learning–ready architecture for scalable automation

Defining the Future of Perception

Aptiv’s Gen 8 radars represent a significant leap forward in intelligent sensing, built on proprietary antenna and silicon design. The new platform supports AI- and ML-driven ADAS capabilities, enabling advanced hands-free driving even in challenging conditions. Both front-facing and corner units enhance how vehicles interpret their surroundings, combining performance with cost efficiency.

The same proprietary technology powers the Aptiv PULSE Sensor, a compact fusion solution that merges radar and camera data to provide full-vehicle awareness. PULSE replaces up to four ultrasonic sensors, offering superior detection accuracy while reducing system complexity and cost — ideal for use in vehicles, drones, and industrial robotics.

Advancing Intelligent Driving

Aptiv pioneered radar technology in production vehicles more than two decades ago, and today, we’re once again setting the pace,” said Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President of Software, Advanced Safety and User Experience at Aptiv. “Our Gen 8 Radars mark a major step forward in the journey toward intelligent, software-defined vehicles—delivering all-weather reliability, 4D perception, and deep environmental awareness.

Building on 25 years of radar innovation, the Gen 8 family integrates hardware and software IP to enable driving scenarios like Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) and automated parking in complex environments.

Core Performance Enhancements

Forward Radar

  • Detects objects beyond 300 meters with ultra-fine 4D angular resolution
  • Delivers a 30% performance boost and doubles the vertical field of view versus the prior generation

Dual-Mode Corner Radar

  • Expands vertical FOV resolution and improves horizontal discrimination by 25%
  • Enhances close-range detection for AEB, automated parking, and object avoidance

Built for Real-World Performance

The Gen 8 platform introduces a step-change in detection capabilities, doubling the channel count for enhanced object classification. It enables radar-only classification of drivable and non-drivable surfaces, real-time mapping of lanes and obstacles, and low-error target tracking even in low-SNR environments.

By delivering rich, real-time sensor data for AI systems, Aptiv’s radar technology ensures vehicles can learn, adapt, and respond with greater intelligence — paving the way for next-generation autonomous mobility.
