Infineon Technologies AG has introduced the RASIC™ CTRX8191F, a cutting-edge 28nm radar MMIC designed to advance 4D and HD imaging radar systems. Tailored to meet the demands of SAE Level 2+ to Level 4 autonomous driving, this innovative radar MMIC delivers exceptional performance while maintaining cost-efficiency. It addresses critical challenges, such as detecting pedestrians in dense urban environments, paving the way for safer automated and autonomous driving solutions.

Key Highlights

  • Enhanced Detection Capabilities: Detects vulnerable road users and vehicles at distances of up to 380 meters using 8-transmitter and 8-receiver configurations.
  • Cost-Effective Design: Features a low-cost launcher-on-package design enabling the use of waveguide antennas and minimizes the need for expensive RF materials.
  • Advanced Technology: Equipped with a state-of-the-art digital PLL, offering high flexibility in waveform generation with a flyback time of less than 1 µs.
  • Scalability: Supports cascading multiple devices at low frequencies, facilitating advanced system configurations.
  • Developer-Friendly Tools: Comes with the comprehensive CARKIT radar development kit for rapid prototyping and system design.

The CTRX8191F enables cascading configurations and leverages Infineon’s innovative launcher-on-package technology to simplify integration with low-cost waveguide antennas. These features optimize signal processing, improving the signal-to-noise ratio and enabling precise detection even in complex environments.

Additionally, Infineon’s CARKIT development platform streamlines system design by offering example code, a graphical interface, and various pre-configured system options. CARKIT supports flexible system configurations, such as transmitting raw ADC data or radar detections via a Gigabit Ethernet interface. Its modular design allows easy customization to meet specific customer needs, including compatibility with custom antenna systems.

Product Availability

The RASIC™ CTRX8191F radar MMIC and CARKIT modules are available now in multiple configurations. Infineon will showcase these solutions at CES 2025, held at The Venetian Resort Hotel, with live demonstrations in Venetian Tower Guest Suites 29-139 and 29-140.
