Momenta Partners With Grab for Southeast Asia Autonomy

Momenta and Grab have formed a strategic partnership to bring autonomous driving technology to Southeast Asia, combining factory-integrated L4 solutions with Grab's regional mobility platform.

Momenta has secured a strategic partnership and investment from Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading superapp, to deploy autonomous driving technology across the region’s urban mobility markets. The collaboration will explore bringing Momenta’s dual-track autonomous vehicle strategy to Grab’s extensive transportation platform.

Highlights

  • Strategic investment: Grab has made a strategic investment in Momenta as part of a broader partnership to explore autonomous mobility deployment in Southeast Asia.
  • Factory-integrated approach: The partnership aims to leverage Momenta’s mass-production autonomous driving solutions, eliminating costly post-production vehicle modifications.
  • Dual deployment model: Both companies will explore opportunities using Momenta’s L4-capable vehicles integrated directly into Grab’s platform.
  • Expanding global footprint: The deal follows Momenta’s May 2025 partnership with Uber, which includes plans for L4 robotaxi testing in Munich starting in 2026.

Momenta’s L2 + L4 Parallel Strategy

Momenta operates a distinctive dual approach to autonomous technology deployment. The company partners with automakers including Mercedes-Benz and BMW to equip production vehicles with advanced driver assistance systems powered by its Flywheel Big Model. Simultaneously, Momenta is advancing its robotaxi technology toward commercial launch.

This parallel strategy enables L4-level autonomous capabilities to be integrated into mass-produced vehicles. The approach addresses a persistent industry challenge: high costs associated with vehicle modification and hardware integration for autonomous deployments.

Partnership Structure and Objectives

The Grab and Momenta collaboration will focus on several key areas:

  • Testing autonomous use cases across Southeast Asia’s complex urban environments
  • Evaluating commercial pathways to sustainable autonomous operations
  • Integrating autonomous services into Grab’s existing mobility platform
  • Deploying factory-installed solutions that bypass post-production modifications

“We are excited to shape the future of mobility in Southeast Asia and Momenta’s impressive technological capabilities expands the ways we will explore that,” said Dominic Ong, General Manager of Autonomous at Grab. “Their simultaneous focus on mass-market ADAS and cutting-edge Robotaxis creates a powerful feedback loop.”

Global Expansion Continues

The Grab partnership extends Momenta’s growing international ecosystem. The company has established relationships with European automakers, North American mobility platforms, and now Southeast Asian transportation networks.

Momenta CEO Xudong Cao emphasized the strategic importance of the region. “Grab is the most influential mobility platform in the Southeast Asian market,” Cao said. “Our goal is to make safe and comfortable autonomous driving experiences a part of everyday life for users around the world.”
