Inceptio Technology’s autonomous driving systems have logged more than 621 million miles (1 billion kilometers) of commercial mileage, a total the company says covers roughly 97% of China’s highway network. The Shanghai-based developer of truck autonomy announced the 1-billion-kilometer milestone this week alongside a technology framework it calls Freight Physical AI, which it describes as a system built around the operating conditions of commercial trucking rather than passenger vehicles. Inceptio also says it holds more than 90% of China’s autonomous trucking market.

Scale of Commercial Deployment
Inceptio serves express delivery, less-than-truckload, cold chain, general cargo, and liquid food transportation customers. The company says that in 2026 several express delivery operators began specifying autonomous driving as standard in their heavy-duty truck procurement.
According to Inceptio, trucks running its system have shown benefits in safety, driver workload, labor efficiency, and fuel or energy consumption in real-world operations. The company characterizes the accumulated mileage as one of the industry’s largest real-world operational datasets for heavy-duty trucking and says each kilometer improves its ability to identify, reproduce, validate, and resolve complex freight scenarios.
Inceptio, which joined the Autoware Foundation last year, reported just over 200 million kilometers of commercial operation at that time.
What Is Freight Physical AI?
Inceptio positions Freight Physical AI as a foundation purpose-built for freight, arguing that commercial vehicles differ from passenger cars in physical characteristics, driving dynamics, traffic interactions, and operating environments. The company’s technology framework integrates three capabilities:
- Freight-Native Intelligence: End-to-end models that incorporate truck dynamics, driving behaviors, road conditions, and traffic interactions directly into the model architecture and training system. A component called the Freight World Model reconstructs interactions among trucks, other road users, and road environments from real-world freight data to support training and testing.
- Scenario Intelligence: A scenario recognition and management framework plus a proprietary data factory. Inceptio says its Real-world Operation Scenario Library (ROSL) holds up to several hundred thousand high-value scenarios.
- Operational Intelligence: A cloud-based Operational Brain platform that aggregates risk alerts and operational data from individual trucks into fleet-level intelligence, supporting risk warning, energy and fuel optimization, route planning, cost management, and efficiency improvements.
The company frames the connection between vehicle-level and fleet-level intelligence as the basis for what it calls freight robotics networks.
Expansion Beyond Line-Haul
In line-haul transportation, where Inceptio says it leads the L2+ market, the company has obtained L4 autonomous driving testing permits in Zhejiang, Beijing, and Hainan. It has partnered with JD Logistics to run L4 heavy-duty demonstration operations carrying commercial cargo on open roads.
In regional distribution and urban delivery, Inceptio and SF Express launched commercial pilot operations of driverless light-duty trucks on public roads in May 2026.
Internationally, Inceptio says it is accelerating deployment and validation across Europe, Japan, and the Middle East. The company was selected for the L4 heavy-duty trucking pilot at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the same Belgian hub where Einride ran the country’s first autonomous truck trip on public roads last year.
