Automotive technology company Valeo has produced its 20 millionth front camera system equipped with Mobileye EyeQ® technology. This milestone comes just one year after reaching 10 million units in November 2022.
Valeo and Mobileye have collaborated since 2015, integrating Mobileye’s EyeQ® system-on-chip (SoC) into Valeo’s front camera systems. This collaboration has revolutionized driving assistance systems by taking computer vision technology to the next level.
The production of these front camera systems is impressive. Up to 40,000 units are manufactured daily across three production sites in Europe and China, serving 12 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
These front camera systems play a crucial role in enhancing road safety by supporting key features such as:
- Autonomous emergency braking
- Adaptive cruise control
- Lane keeping assist
- Traffic sign recognition
In fact, front camera systems are considered key enablers in reaching the safety requirements set by authorities worldwide. By 2030, it’s expected that around 90% of all new cars will be equipped with advanced driver assistance systems.
Marc Vrecko, president of Valeo’s Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems Business Group, commented on the achievement:
“Valeo offers the largest portfolio of sensors and perception software available on the market. Front cameras are one of the key technologies for enhanced safety and will soon be set up on all vehicles. We are very proud to have reached this new milestone in the ramp up of our production and in our partnership with Mobileye. At Valeo, we strive to make our technology efficient, but also available to all and we are proud to be contributing to the safety of road users.”
Nimrod Nehushtan, senior vice president of strategy and business development at Mobileye, added:
“Since our founding we have focused on improving vehicle safety for drivers globally. Our ongoing success with Valeo demonstrates how far we’ve come together and the opportunies that lie ahead to bring even more advanced technologies to millions of vehicles over the next few years. We look forward to working with Valeo with the next-generation Mobileye EyeQ6 system-on-chip going into full production next year.”
Valeo is committed to innovation in the automotive industry, making mobility cleaner, safer, and smarter. With its leading position in four key areas – electrification, driving assistance systems, reinvention of the interior experience, and lighting – Valeo is well-positioned to continue its growth and success.
Additionally, Valeo and Mobileye announced a new collaboration in September 2023 to develop software-defined imaging radars. This collaboration further strengthens their commitment to advancing driver assist and automated driving features.
With the continued development of advanced driver assistance systems, the future of mobility is looking increasingly safe and convenient. Valeo and Mobileye are at the forefront of this innovation, and their partnership is poised to play a key role in shaping the future of transportation.
