Stellantis Expands Applied Intuition Tie-Up to STLA Brain

Stellantis has expanded its partnership with Applied Intuition to cover STLA Brain, extending the Silicon Valley software firm's role from cockpit into Stellantis' core vehicle OS and autonomy systems.

Stellantis and Silicon Valley software firm Applied Intuition have expanded their technology partnership to cover STLA Brain, the automaker’s next-generation intelligent vehicle platform that underpins core software across its vehicle lineup. The companies announced the broadened agreement on May 21, building on existing joint work on STLA SmartCockpit, the cockpit and connectivity layer. Applied Intuition will supply its Vehicle OS, Cabin Intelligence and autonomy systems to support development, simulation, validation and deployment across Stellantis’ STLA Brain intelligent vehicle platform. Final scope and terms remain subject to subsequent agreements between the parties.

Highlights

  • Partnership extends from STLA SmartCockpit into STLA Brain, Stellantis’ core software architecture
  • Applied Intuition provides Vehicle OS, Cabin Intelligence and autonomy systems through the agreement
  • Collaboration covers software development, simulation, validation and deployment across vehicle programs
  • Agreement establishes a framework; each company retains flexibility for additional software collaborations

From Cockpit to Core Software Architecture

The expanded agreement moves Applied Intuition deeper into Stellantis’ software stack. The earlier collaboration on STLA SmartCockpit focused on in-vehicle software experiences — the cockpit, personalization and connectivity layer that sits closest to the driver. The new scope reaches STLA Brain, the platform Stellantis describes as designed to simplify system integration and support continuous improvement throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

For Stellantis, the move comes after the automaker wound down its earlier STLA SmartCockpit joint venture with Amazon in 2025 and signaled a broader reset of its software partnerships. The Applied Intuition agreement places a Silicon Valley specialist with deep automotive credentials at the center of both the cockpit and the underlying vehicle OS.

“Speed, scalability and quality are critical as we bring new technologies to our vehicles,” said Ned Curic, Chief Engineering and Technology Officer at Stellantis. “Our collaboration with Applied Intuition helps us accelerate the development of a common software foundation across our technology platforms. For customers, this means a faster delivery of new features, a more seamless in-vehicle experience and continuous improvement over time.”

Vehicle OS, Cabin Intelligence and Autonomy

Under the agreement, Applied Intuition will provide three elements to support Stellantis’ software programs:

  • Vehicle OS — the AI-defined foundation Applied Intuition positions as shortening development cycles and improving time to market
  • Cabin Intelligence — building on the work already established under STLA SmartCockpit
  • Autonomy systems — Applied Intuition’s core domain, where the company supplies tools and software to 18 of the top 20 global automakers

The company describes the work as bringing production-scale Vehicle OS and autonomy systems to market across multiple Stellantis brands and vehicle platforms.

“The expanded partnership positions Applied Intuition and Stellantis at the forefront of the transition to AI-defined vehicles,” said Qasar Younis, co-founder and CEO of Applied Intuition. “Together, we’re bringing production-scale Vehicle OS and autonomy systems to market across multiple brands and vehicle platforms.”

Framework Agreement, Not a Closed Scope

The release frames the agreement as establishing a framework rather than a fixed, exclusive scope. Each company retains the flexibility to pursue additional collaborations in the software space, and final terms remain subject to subsequent agreements between the parties. That structure leaves room for Stellantis to layer in further software partners alongside Applied Intuition, and for Applied Intuition to continue work with other automakers — a posture consistent with the company’s stated position as a horizontal software supplier to the industry.

Stellantis previously acquired aiMotive in 2022 to bring autonomous driving software capability in-house and accelerate its STLA AutoDrive platform, the third pillar of its software architecture alongside STLA Brain and STLA SmartCockpit. Applied Intuition has separately been building out partnerships on Level 2+ ADAS deployment earlier this spring, signaling that its automotive footprint continues to broaden across both tooling and production software.
