NIO is extending HERE Technologies’ streaming map data beyond its Firefly brand to its full European lineup, covering the ET5, ET7, EL6, EL7, and EL8. HERE Technologies and NIO describe the expanded collaboration as a foundation for fresher in-car navigation and future Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) features on European roads. According to HERE, the continuously refreshed map data will also support NIO’s longer-term assisted driving development in the region.

What the Streaming Map Updates Cover
HERE says continuously refreshed map data gives vehicles context about road conditions, traffic regulations, lane configurations, and other real-world changes. According to the release, this context helps software-defined vehicles understand and respond to the road environment.
NIO is using the streaming capability to push fresher map content across its European markets. HERE reports that the continuous updates on road network changes, traffic rules, and points of interest are intended to keep NIO’s navigation more accurate and current.

Going forward, HERE and NIO plan to study how fresh map intelligence can speed development and deployment of AI-driven driving features. That work includes future capabilities enabled by NIO World Model and Navigation on Autopilot.
