Massimo Motor is developing a second-generation autonomous patrol platform built around its electric golf cart chassis, positioning the vehicle for site-based security and facility monitoring rather than transportation alone. The company said the platform is being designed with integrated autonomous patrol capabilities, continuous site monitoring, and real-time communication functionality. Massimo disclosed the development alongside an update on its broader electric fleet footprint.
Highlights
- Second-generation platform shifts Massimo’s autonomous golf cart from utility transport toward a purpose-built patrol role
- Designed for extended-duration or continuous patrol operations with alerts sent to personnel via mobile-connected systems
- Target environments include manufacturing sites, commercial properties, campuses, parks, and logistics facilities
- Announcement follows Massimo’s April strategic cooperation agreement with Shenzhen AIBO Robotics on AI-enabled vehicle platforms
From Transport Utility to Patrol Platform
Massimo’s earlier-generation electric carts were built primarily around transportation and utility use cases. The new platform repositions the product category toward unmanned site patrol, an application area that has drawn growing interest from law enforcement agencies and private facility operators.
The company said the system is intended to transmit alerts and operational data directly to designated personnel via mobile-connected systems. Massimo said it believes these features may enhance situational awareness, improve response times, and support more efficient security and facility management operations.
Target Deployment Environments
Massimo identified a range of controlled-access settings where the patrol platform could apply, including manufacturing facilities, commercial properties, campuses, parks, and logistics sites. Low-speed, perimeter-oriented environments are a logical fit for golf cart–class platforms, which operate below the regulatory and technical thresholds that complicate on-road autonomy.
The positioning places Massimo alongside a widening field of autonomous ground vehicles targeting facility and public safety patrol work, including the PUG Patrol Partner pilot launched by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office in 2025 and autonomous patrol vehicles fielded by police agencies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Electric Fleet Network Expansion
In parallel, Massimo said its electric fleet vehicles are being deployed across a growing set of site-based operating environments, including public safety, property management, campus operations, industrial facilities, and other recurring-use settings. The company said the expansion reflects rising demand for durable, cost-efficient electric vehicles designed for recurring operational use. Massimo did not disclose specific unit volumes, customer counts, or revenue figures tied to the fleet expansion.
Executive Commentary
“We are expanding our fleet footprint while advancing a more purpose-built, patrol-oriented platform designed for real-world operating environments,” said Quenton Petersen, Chief Executive Officer of Massimo. “This next-generation system reflects a shift beyond basic electric transportation toward more integrated, application-driven solutions that incorporate autonomous functionality, continuous operation, and real-time connectivity.”
Petersen was appointed CEO on April 14, 2026, succeeding founder David Shan in the role. The autonomous patrol announcement also follows Massimo’s April 9 strategic cooperation agreement with Shenzhen AIBO Robotics, which the company has positioned as a foundation for its AI-enabled vehicle platform strategy.
Development Stage and Open Questions
Massimo described the second-generation platform as under development and did not disclose a commercial launch window, target price, autonomy level, sensor suite, or named pilot customers. The company also did not identify the software or hardware partners supplying the autonomy stack, though the recent AIBO Robotics agreement is likely relevant. The release did not address regulatory classification or operating constraints for the platform.
