LG Innotek is making significant strides in the autonomous driving and extended reality (XR) markets by partnering with AOE Optronics, a subsidiary of Asia Optical CO., INC. This collaboration marks a substantial move towards enhancing LG Innotek’s position in these cutting-edge technology sectors.

On January 24, LG Innotek disclosed its strategic decision to invest in AOE Optronics’ shares and establish a close cooperative relationship in the realm of optical components. This move is seen as a critical step to boost LG Innotek’s product and business competitiveness in the field of optical solutions. This partnership allows LG Innotek to leverage its leading position in the smartphone camera module sector into the burgeoning markets of autonomous vehicles and XR technologies.

The investment in AOE is also poised to strengthen LG Innotek’s Supply Chain Management (SCM). By securing a stable lens supply, a vital component in camera modules, LG Innotek enhances its production efficiency and market responsiveness.

AOE, a Taiwan-based company, specializes in lens manufacturing. It is renowned for its advanced technologies and mass production capabilities in lens modules, ranging from glass materials to the finished product. AOE has recently gained prominence for its supply to North American electric vehicle manufacturers, especially in the vehicle lens module segment. The growing demand for ‘Aspherical Glass Lens’ in the autonomous vehicle industry highlights AOE’s expertise and positions it as a key player in the market.

Through this strategic partnership, LG Innotek and AOE plan to combine their respective strengths in optical design, process automation, quality control, and precision lens manufacturing. The goal is to develop world-class lenses that will enhance both quality and cost-effectiveness. These innovations are expected to deliver unique benefits to global carmakers, vehicle parts companies, and XR device manufacturers.

LG Innotek’s CEO Moon Hyuk-soo emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding its camera module portfolio to include vehicles and XR devices. “We will provide differentiated customer values with our overwhelming technologies and cost competitiveness,” Moon stated, underscoring LG Innotek’s ambition to become a leader in technological innovation and a driving force in the industry.
