Kodiak Robotics, a leading provider of AI-powered autonomous vehicle technology, has delivered two additional driverless trucks to Atlas Energy Solutions. This delivery expands Atlas’s fleet to four trucks equipped with the Kodiak Driver, Kodiak’s advanced autonomous system. In a significant operational expansion, these driverless trucks have now launched a service capable of running up to 24/7, pausing only for refueling and maintenance.

Scaling Autonomous Operations
The two new trucks, which entered service in late May, are a key part of Atlas’s strategy to automate its supply chain. The driverless vehicles play a crucial role in Atlas’s logistics, transporting frac sand from the company’s 42-mile Dune Express conveyor system directly to customer well sites across the Permian Basin. This region spans parts of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.
This expansion marks a significant milestone in the partnership. “Our initial rollout of Kodiak Driver-powered driverless trucks represents a significant operational milestone in our autonomous strategy, creating a clear path to continue scaling our businesses together,” said John Turner, President and CEO of Atlas Energy Solutions. Atlas plans to continue adding more autonomous trucks to its fleet to enhance long-term competitiveness and address operational challenges such as driver recruitment.
A Proven Partnership
The collaboration has already demonstrated considerable success. In April, Kodiak received a firm commitment from Atlas for the initial 100-truck order after meeting key performance and operational targets. Kodiak provides its technology through a Driver as a Service model, where customers pay a licensing fee that covers the autonomous operations and system support.
Don Burnette, Founder and CEO of Kodiak Robotics, highlighted the rapid technological progress, including the critical ability for night driving. “Our work with Atlas demonstrates the Kodiak Driver’s ability to provide value to commercial trucking customers,” Burnette stated. He added that the experience gained in the Permian Basin will help Kodiak scale its driverless operations across different environments, including on-highway routes. Founded in 2018, Kodiak aims to become a world leader in autonomous ground transportation by commercializing driverless trucking at scale.
