BYD has become the first automaker to extend full damage coverage to a city driver assistance function, attaching a one-year guarantee to the Urban Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) feature of its God’s Eye system in China. The company unveiled the policy at its Intelligence Strategy Launch Event, alongside the XUANJI A3, which BYD describes as China’s first 4nm automotive-grade driving system-on-a-chip. The coverage extends an earlier guarantee for Intelligent Parking, a pairing the company says makes it the first automaker to back both functions.
Highlights
- The one-year Full Damage Coverage applies to the Urban NOA function and covers all economic losses from a legally liable accident when the feature is used in line with regulations.
- Eligibility runs to new buyers and existing owners who upgrade to God’s Eye 5.0 in the Chinese market.
- BYD says its intelligent driving fleet exceeds 3.15 million vehicles and logs more than 124 million miles each day.
- The new XUANJI A3 chip supports L3 and L4 driving, with a three-chip setup rated at more than 2,100 TOPS per vehicle, according to the company.
What the Full Damage Coverage Includes
The one-year guarantee applies to new buyers and existing owners who upgrade to God’s Eye 5.0 in China. Under the policy, if a legally liable accident occurs while a driver is operating Urban NOA in compliance with regulations, BYD will directly cover the resulting economic losses. The coverage follows the company’s earlier guarantee for Intelligent Parking, and BYD says the combination makes it the first automaker to offer damage coverage across both functions. The company also said its entire lineup can now be optionally equipped with the God’s Eye LiDAR Version.
The Data Behind the Guarantee
BYD tied the commitment to three claims about its intelligent driving operation. The company reports a fleet of more than 3.15 million driver assistance vehicles, which it says is the largest among Chinese automakers, and more than 124 million miles of God’s Eye driving logged daily. It also cited an R&D team of 5,000 engineers. BYD said it will invest more than RMB 100 billion (about $14.75 billion) in intelligent driving assistance research, structured around stated goals of zero traffic accidents and positioning its driver assistance as what it calls a “Super Driver.”
God’s Eye Upgrades
BYD outlined four changes to God’s Eye: a new XUANJI Architecture 2.0, a satellite sensor architecture the company describes as an industry first, an upgraded physical AI model, and a self-evolving data system built on real-world driving scenarios. The update builds on the XUANJI Architecture BYD first introduced for its intelligent vehicles. In the cabin, the company added the DiLink AI Intelligent Cockpit, which pairs a digital assistant with proactive task execution and reasoning features.
XUANJI A3: A 4nm Driving Chip for L3 and L4
BYD unveiled the XUANJI A3, which it calls China’s first self-developed 4nm automotive-grade driving SoC. The company says the chip natively supports L3 and L4 autonomous driving and that a three-chip configuration can deliver more than 2,100 TOPS of computing power per vehicle. BYD also says the A3 uses the most advanced 4nm process, with power consumption per TOPS roughly 20% lower than comparable products, that it is already in mass production, and that paired with the company’s own algorithms it doubles computing utilization. BYD framed the chip as a continuation of the safety focus it previously applied to its Blade Battery.
