WeRide Launches Fully Unmanned Robotaxi GXR in Beijing

WeRide, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, has announced the commercial launch of its latest Robotaxi GXR for fully unmanned, paid ride-hailing services in Beijing. This milestone marks the second WeRide Robotaxi model to achieve driverless commercial operations in Beijing and the GXR’s first large-scale deployment in China, following its debut on Uber’s platform in Abu Dhabi in December.

The newly approved service area includes key regions within the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, covering high-speed railway stations and even highways leading to and from Beijing Daxing International Airport. This expansive service demonstrates WeRide’s commitment to providing diverse and scalable transportation solutions.

The GXR is the result of over five years of development, showcasing industry-leading L4-level architecture and a focus on passenger comfort. It offers seating for up to five passengers with enhanced entry and exit space, optimal seating arrangements, and increased luggage capacity. The GXR can be hailed through the WeRide Go app, available on major mobile platforms.

WeRide’s strategic expansions have positioned it as the only autonomous driving company with active Robotaxi services in cities like Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Ordos, Suzhou, and Abu Dhabi. Its partnership with Uber has solidified WeRide’s presence in the Middle East, and the company plans to extend operations to Zurich, Switzerland in 2025.

As WeRide continues to scale, the company aims to significantly grow its Beijing fleet, with several hundred Robotaxis expected on the road by 2025, further cementing its leadership in the global autonomous driving sector.
