Ryan Transportation, a top-20 U.S. freight brokerage, has partnered with Bot Auto to launch fully driverless autonomous trucking operations on a Houston-to-Dallas corridor. The partnership marks one of the first integrations of Level 4 autonomous capacity into a major brokerage network. Driverless runs are expected to begin in spring 2026.
Highlights
- Ryan Transportation will integrate Bot Auto’s driverless fleet into its logistics network for overnight Houston-to-Dallas freight runs.
- The roughly 200-mile corridor targets time-sensitive overnight deliveries that are difficult to staff with human drivers.
- Bot Auto operates a Transportation as a Service (TaaS) model, offering autonomous capacity as a plug-in option for traditional brokerage operations.
- Driverless commercial operations are expected to launch in spring 2026.
Why Overnight Freight Fits Autonomous Trucking
The deployment focuses on an overnight lane connecting Houston to the southern Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. This corridor presents a tight delivery window that has historically challenged traditional carriers.
Overnight runs require consistent departure times, steady speeds, and narrow delivery windows. However, driver fatigue, hours-of-service regulations, and staffing shortages make reliable coverage difficult. Autonomous trucks eliminate these constraints entirely.
Robert Brown, VP of Business Development at Bot Auto, said the overnight lane represents an ideal use case for the company’s technology. He noted that autonomous trucks do not require rest periods and deliver with consistent precision on every run.
Brokerage Industry Signals Confidence in Autonomy
The partnership carries broader significance for the freight industry. Ryan Transportation ranks No. 19 on the 2025 Transport Topics Top 100 Freight Brokerage list. As a result, its adoption of autonomous capacity signals growing mainstream acceptance among established logistics providers.
Jeff Henderson, Senior Vice President at Ryan Transportation, described the move as a strategic decision. He emphasized that it was based on Bot Auto’s proven technology and the long-term role autonomous trucking will play in logistics.
Henderson added that the partnership strengthens Ryan’s ability to provide dependable, high-frequency capacity on time-sensitive freight. Meanwhile, it maintains the operational standards its customers expect.
How the TaaS Model Works for Brokers
Bot Auto’s TaaS model allows brokerages to access driverless trucks as a capacity layer within their existing operations. In other words, shippers gain access to consistent, available capacity without the variability of traditional driver-dependent service.
Key advantages of the model include:
- Schedule consistency — autonomous trucks operate without fatigue or hours-of-service interruptions
- High-frequency reliability — same-lane repeatability with identical performance each run
- Seamless integration — TaaS plugs into existing brokerage logistics networks
- Scalability — capacity can expand without the constraints of driver recruitment
