Zoox has officially launched its public ride-hailing service in Las Vegas, introducing a new era of autonomous transportation. The company is now the first to offer a service using a fully autonomous, purpose-built robotaxi, providing a unique mobility option for residents and the city’s millions of visitors.

A New Era for Ride-Hailing
The launch marks a significant milestone for the autonomous vehicle industry. According to Aicha Evans, CEO of Zoox, the industry has made remarkable strides, bringing society closer to a future of safer and more accessible mobility.
“With the launch of our fully driverless ride-hailing service using a purposefully designed robotaxi, we’re thrilled to be part of this groundbreaking journey,” Evans stated. “Las Vegas is a city famous for unforgettable moments, and it is the ideal location for our debut. Zoox is about transforming the entire ride-hailing experience, making every ride a delightful experience.”
Navigating the Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas was selected as the ideal launch location due to its status as a major global destination that attracts over 40 million visitors annually. The Zoox app, available for download on both iOS and Android, allows riders to request a vehicle from several key locations on and around the Strip. Initial destinations include Resorts World Las Vegas, AREA15, and Topgolf, with plans to add more properties in the coming months.
The robotaxi features comfortable carriage seating designed to encourage conversation and connection between passengers. In addition to the Las Vegas service, customers can also use the app to join the waitlist for future service in San Francisco.
How to Ride with Zoox
To introduce the public to the service, all rides are currently free. This initial phase allows riders to provide valuable feedback before the company scales its operations. Zoox plans to introduce paid rides once it receives the necessary regulatory approvals.
Pickups and drop-offs occur at each destination’s designated ride-hail zone. At partner locations like Resorts World Las Vegas and AREA15, Zoox has created dedicated areas for its riders. On-site Zoox Concierge staff will be available to welcome customers and answer any questions. To help riders identify their vehicle, the app displays the robotaxi’s license plate number, estimated pickup times, and real-time arrival updates. For assistance, a remote support team can be contacted through the app or via the “Help” button inside the vehicle.

A Decade of Innovation
Zoox’s approach has focused on developing a purpose-built vehicle from the ground up, a strategy that differs from competitors who retrofit existing cars. While this method required a longer development timeline, the company believes it is now positioned to scale more efficiently.
