Einride, a freight tech leader, has launched Europe’s first daily commercial autonomous freight operations, connecting Apotea’s warehouses in Morgongåva, Sweden. This milestone follows a two-year partnership between Einride and Apotea, during which over 917,000 kg of CO2e emissions were saved, demonstrating the environmental and logistical benefits of autonomous freight technology.

Key Highlights

  • First daily commercial autonomous freight operations in Europe: Einride’s heavy-duty autonomous vehicle operates between Apotea’s warehouses, covering a public road route with the necessary permit.
  • Sustainability achievement: Since 2022, Einride’s electric and autonomous freight solutions have saved 917,000 kg of CO2e, equivalent to 20 laps around the Earth.
  • Machine learning-powered efficiency: Einride’s system uses advanced ML insights to optimize logistics flows, particularly during peak delivery times, like the holiday season.
  • Autonomous freight ecosystem: Einride’s solution includes electric and autonomous vehicles, charging infrastructure, and a digital freight operating system.

Advancing Autonomous Freight Technology

The fully autonomous heavy-duty vehicle deployed by Einride operates without a driver onboard, showcasing the potential of machine learning and sensor technology. With a combination of radars, lidars, and cameras providing a 360-degree view, the system ensures precise navigation. Remote operators monitor operations to provide support when required.

Henrik Green, General Manager for Einride Autonomous Technologies, emphasized the benefits:

“Our autonomous technology facilitated by machine learning allows for higher utilization and efficient, safe freight. Adding our first autonomous route at Apotea’s site…allows us to showcase how the Einride ecosystem can optimize entire logistics flows.”

A Partnership Focused on Innovation

Apotea, Sweden’s leading online pharmacy, has been a pioneer in leveraging Einride’s technology to cut emissions and streamline operations. The company is now automating portions of its logistics chain, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and customer service.

Pär Svärdson, founder and CEO of Apotea, highlighted the partnership’s significance:

“We are proud to partner with Einride…to bring Europe its first autonomous freight operations in daily commercial use. This is a crucial step as we work to automate several parts of our logistics chain for more efficient deliveries.”

Pioneering the Future of Logistics

Einride’s autonomous freight operations represent a bold step forward in modernizing logistics through automation and sustainability. With its capacity-as-a-service model, the company offers end-to-end solutions, from site selection to daily operation management. This advancement signals a promising future for autonomous logistics, benefiting businesses and the environment alike.
