Aurora Innovation (NASDAQ: AUR) has signed Charger Logistics as a driverless freight customer, starting with hauls between Dallas and Laredo — one of the carrier’s busiest lanes in the U.S. Sun Belt. The agreement puts Charger’s freight on Aurora’s second-generation driverless truck, and the carrier plans to use the Aurora Driver to add capacity across its network and raise asset utilization. Aurora frames the corridor as the first of several the two companies expect to operate together.

Dallas-Laredo Opens the Deployment
The agreement begins on a single corridor and is structured to expand from there. Aurora attributes the deal to demand that has built since its driverless launch last year, and points to Charger’s North American footprint as the basis for adding Sun Belt freight lanes over time.
“Our new fleet of driverless trucks enables us to meet the substantial demand we’ve seen since we first launched last year,” said Zac Andreoni, Vice President of Business Development at Aurora. “Charger’s scale and reach across North America give us a strong foundation to grow from – this is just the first of many routes we expect to bring online together.”
The hauls will move on Aurora’s newest driverless fleet, the second-generation trucks now carrying customer freight.

That freight mix shapes what the Aurora Driver will be hauling on the lane. Charger’s president tied the deployment to reliability for cargo that cannot absorb delay.
