Arrow McLaren said this week it has added Aurora Innovation as an Official Partner under a multi-year agreement, with Aurora branding appearing across the team kit beginning at Portland International Raceway on August 7-9. Aurora (NASDAQ: AUR) develops the Aurora Driver, a self-driving system that enables a Class 8 truck to drive itself. Last year the company became the first to launch a commercial self-driving service with heavy-duty trucks on public roads.
Highlights
- Multi-year agreement naming Aurora an Official Partner of the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team
- Team kit branding begins at Portland International Raceway, August 7-9
- 2027 expansion extends Aurora branding to driver firesuits and the engine cover of the No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet
- Aurora’s commercial position: first company to run a commercial self-driving service using heavy-duty trucks on public roads, with a second-generation driverless truck recently released
What the Deal Puts on Track
The initial activation is team-kit branding, live from the Portland race weekend. For the 2027 season, Aurora’s identity extends to driver firesuits and to the engine cover of the No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet — the car campaigned in 2026 by Nolan Siegel, alongside Pato O’Ward in the No. 5 and Christian Lundgaard in the No. 7.
Arrow McLaren operates from the McLaren Racing Center in Indianapolis. Within the INDYCAR SERIES, McLaren Racing’s record includes three Indianapolis 500 victories in 1972, 1974 and 1976, and a broader IndyCar total of 30 wins, 31 poles and 93 podium finishes.
Where Aurora Sits in Driverless Freight
The Aurora Driver is built to operate a Class 8 truck without a person behind the wheel. Aurora frames the addressable problem as a trillion-dollar U.S. trucking industry contending with an aging driver population, rising operating costs and underutilized assets — conditions the company says make autonomy valuable because it adds capacity without displacing jobs.
The company recently released its second-generation driverless truck and, according to Aurora, plans to expand across the Sun Belt.
