Waymo Expands Autonomous Service to Miami

Waymo is expanding its autonomous ride-hailing service to Miami, the Magic City. Known for its dynamic mix of sunshine, culture, and technology, Miami is fast becoming a hub for innovation. Starting in early 2025, Waymo will begin to reintroduce its all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles to the streets of Miami, with plans to officially open the service to the public in 2026 through the Waymo One app.

Key Highlights:

  • Miami expansion marks Waymo’s ongoing growth, already operational in Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Austin.
  • Fleet partnership with Moove, a leader in innovative mobility solutions, will manage fleet operations, facilities, and charging infrastructure.
  • Waymo’s all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles will begin testing in Miami in early 2025, with public service expected by 2026.
  • The service will bring autonomous, sustainable ride-hailing to both Miami residents and tourists.

With Miami emerging as a tech-forward city, Waymo aims to contribute to this ecosystem by offering safer, accessible, and sustainable mobility options. Leveraging the challenging road conditions of Miami from previous testing phases, the company plans to improve its autonomous driving technology further while making its service accessible to the broader community. The expansion will also build on its existing services, which currently provide over 150,000 trips weekly across multiple cities.

The new partnership with Moove plays a pivotal role in this expansion. Initially, the two companies will work together in Phoenix, where Moove will manage fleet operations, including charging infrastructure and maintenance. This collaboration aims to ensure a seamless, reliable rider experience, with Moove bringing its mobility-focused fleet management expertise to enhance operations.

“We are excited to partner with Moove in Phoenix and later Miami, bringing together their mobility-focused fleet management experience with our growing Waymo One service,” said Ryan McNamara, Vice President of Operations at Waymo. “Together, we will provide safe, seamless trips for riders, and scale faster and more cost-effectively over time, with safety continuing to lead the way.”

Moove sees this partnership as a game-changer for urban mobility. “Ride hailing has transformed urban mobility over the past 15 years, yet the core experience has largely remained unchanged,” said Ladi Delano, Co-founder and Co-CEO at Moove. “Waymo’s safe, reliable, and convenient Waymo One service leads in autonomous technology, and together, we’re driving a major shift in urban mobility. Moove is proud to partner with Waymo, bringing the operational expertise to make this transformation possible.”

The city leadership in Miami is also welcoming Waymo’s expansion with open arms. Francis X. Suarez, Mayor of Miami, commented, “Fully autonomous driving technology offers a safe and convenient option to the people of Miami. I’m so pleased to welcome Waymo to our city. Waymo’s commitment to sustainability with their all-electric fleet is the perfect mobility option to our city as we continue to prioritize low cost, clean energy.”

With the expansion set for early 2025, Miami residents and tourists alike can soon look forward to a safer, greener way to get around the city. Waymo’s growth into Miami promises not only technological innovation but also an improved, sustainable urban mobility experience for all.
