Solera has launched SmartDrive Pedestrian Collision Warning, an AI-powered driver assistance capability that detects pedestrians ahead of fleet vehicles and triggers in-cab audible alerts. The feature is integrated into Solera’s existing SmartDrive video-based safety platform and runs on the SR5 AI-powered smart camera without requiring additional hardware. Solera announced the capability from its Westlake, Texas headquarters.

How the Capability Works
According to Solera, SmartDrive Pedestrian Collision Warning combines computer vision, vehicle sensors, and vehicle data to identify pedestrians in front of the vehicle. The system evaluates risk based on the pedestrian’s proximity to the vehicle and the vehicle’s speed.
When the system identifies a risk, it triggers an in-cab audible alert and captures the event in the SmartDrive platform. Safety teams can then review the events and use them to inform targeted driver coaching.

Targeted Use Cases
The capability is positioned for fleet operations in pedestrian-dense environments. Solera identifies three primary use cases:
- Urban delivery and service routes — last-mile delivery and field service vehicles operating in dense city traffic
- Distribution centers and yards — yard operations where workers move on foot near maneuvering vehicles
- Mixed traffic and low-speed zones — areas with overlapping vehicle and pedestrian movement
Integration with SmartDrive Platform
Pedestrian Collision Warning runs as a software-level addition on the SR5 AI-powered smart camera, which Solera introduced as part of its Fleet Platform integration. Existing SmartDrive customers can adopt the capability without installing new hardware.
The feature joins the SmartDrive product line on the Solera Fleet Platform, which combines AI-powered video, vehicle data, and human review for driver coaching and risk reduction. Solera markets the platform to fleets focused on improving driver performance and reducing high-severity incidents.
