WeRide, in partnership with Guangdong Huadalong City Management Service Co., Ltd., has successfully launched the commercial operation of its Robosweeper S1 in Shantou, Guangdong. This initiative marks Shantou’s first L4-level autonomous sanitation project, showcasing WeRide’s cutting-edge technology in the eastern Guangdong region.

- First L4-Level Autonomous Sanitation Project: The WeRide Robosweeper S1 is now operational in Shantou, setting a new standard for autonomous sanitation.
- Successful Safety Trials: Since June, the Robosweeper S1 has undergone extensive safety tests at Chaoren Wharf Square, ensuring its reliability and efficiency.
- Advanced Technology: The S1 is the world’s first L4 autonomous sanitation equipment, capable of 360-degree perception and full-scene coverage, making it suitable for a variety of road environments.
- Operational Efficiency: Covering over 120,000 square meters on a single charge, the Robosweeper S1 operates both day and night, improving the quality and efficiency of sanitation work.
- Positive Reception: Both local sanitation workers and project partners have praised the Robosweeper S1 for its ability to handle extreme weather conditions and reduce the burden on human workers.
- Expansion Plans: WeRide plans to expand the use of autonomous sanitation equipment to other key areas in Shantou, further enhancing the city’s sanitation standards.
- Broader Implementation: WeRide’s smart sanitation products are already improving urban environments in cities like Guangzhou, Beijing, and Singapore, demonstrating their adaptability and effectiveness.
Since its release in April, the WeRide Robosweeper S1 has proven to be a powerful tool in modernizing urban sanitation. Its deployment in Shantou highlights the growing trend of integrating autonomous technology with traditional sanitation practices, paving the way for smarter, more efficient city management.
In a report by Shantou Daily, sanitation worker Cheng Longchao remarked, “This vehicle is not afraid of high temperatures or cold, improving the quality of sanitation work and reducing the intensity of cleaning operations, thus lessening the burden on us sanitation workers.”
Project manager Li Jian from Huadalong added, “This autonomous driving sanitation vehicle has shown very good trial results.” He indicated that further deployment is planned across Shantou, covering areas such as Haibin Road, Jinhuan Road, and Yuejin Road, which will enhance the city’s overall sanitation efficiency.
WeRide’s success in Shantou is part of a broader initiative to modernize urban sanitation across various cities globally, showcasing the adaptability and scalability of their innovative solutions.
