Waymo has launched a new public transit credit program to further promote sustainable travel options. Riders using Waymo One to connect to select transit stations in the San Francisco Bay Area and Peninsula can now receive a $3.00 credit on future rides. The program aims to make clean, all-electric transportation more accessible, supporting Waymo’s commitment to sustainability and efficient transit connections.

Key Highlights

  • $3.00 credit for Waymo One riders connecting to select Bay Area transit stations.
  • Pilot program runs through November 15, with credits available for use until December 31, 2024.
  • Supports Waymo’s goal of building a sustainable and autonomous vehicle ecosystem.

Waymo now provides over 100,000 paid rides weekly across the San Francisco Bay Area, Metro Phoenix, and Los Angeles County. Riders enjoy the benefits of fully-autonomous electric vehicles, including safety, consistency, and reduced carbon emissions. The all-electric rides are helping prevent an estimated 135 tons of CO2 emissions weekly, offering an environmentally friendly way for people to get around without the need for personal electric vehicles.

The new transit credit initiative is part of Waymo’s broader efforts to integrate its autonomous services with public transit systems. By offering credits to riders traveling to and from select transit stations, Waymo aims to make the connection between public transportation and autonomous vehicles smoother and more accessible, ultimately contributing to more walkable, bikeable, and transit-rich communities.

Adam Lenz, Head of Sustainability and Environment at Waymo, said, “Connecting people with sustainable transportation is at the heart of Waymo’s mission to build the world’s most trusted driver. By offering electric rides on demand and improving access to public transit, Waymo One is making daily travel more sustainable and convenient. Our riders consistently tell us they value sustainability, and we’re proud to offer it as a core benefit to the communities we serve.”

In addition to launching the transit credit program, Waymo has also introduced a new sustainability page, highlighting its ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental impact. The page includes details about the clean energy sources that power Waymo’s fleet, which include suppliers like CleanPowerSF, Silicon Valley Clean Energy, and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

The U.S. transportation sector is the leading producer of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 29% of domestically produced emissions. Waymo aims to be part of the solution by offering convenient zero-emission transportation and making it easier for riders to connect to clean transit options. A recent survey found that 36% of San Francisco riders have used Waymo One to connect to other forms of clean transit, such as BART, Muni, or Caltrain.
