“Our team is laser focused on refining Waymo One to be as seamless and useful as possible for our riders,” said Saswat Panigrahi, Waymo Chief Product Officer. “This means offering exceptional ride quality, short wait times, and more exciting destinations. We’re committed to California, where many of our team members call home, so it’s really special to be able to bring the benefits of full autonomy to even more people in San Francisco and Los Angeles.”

Since removing the waitlist for San Francisco services in June, Waymo has seen a surge in demand from locals and visitors. The service area now covers 55 square miles, from Fisherman’s Wharf to Serramonte Center, including connections to Daly City and Colma BART Stations. In Los Angeles, over 150,000 people have signed up for the waitlist since March, enjoying rides with an average rating above 4.7 out of 5.

Waymo One has grown significantly, now providing over 50,000 paid rides per week across San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. The service is trusted by diverse groups, from parents taking children to school to seniors seeking greater independence, all benefiting from the safety and convenience of fully autonomous driving.

In the last few months, Waymo has also launched a fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Los Angeles, expanded its Metro Phoenix service by 90 square miles, and started curbside airport pickups and dropoffs at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. These efforts have led to more than 2 million paid trips and over 20 million miles driven autonomously.

Patricia Rillera, MADD California State Executive Director, praised Waymo’s contributions to road safety, stating, “Today’s designated driver comes in many forms, and Waymo’s expansion across the San Francisco Bay Area and LA County offers an exciting new option for Californians to choose a safe ride home.”

These expansions are built on years of rigorous testing and a meticulous approach to safety, reinforcing Waymo’s commitment to improving road safety and reducing traffic injuries and fatalities.
