The Mesa facility, a multi-million-dollar investment, produces Jaguar I-PACE vehicles equipped with the Waymo Driver, a fully autonomous system designed and assembled in the U.S. This plant supports Waymo’s fleet of over 1,500 vehicles and will build more than 2,000 additional I-PACEs by next year. The factory’s flexible design allows for future integration of new vehicle platforms, starting with the Zeekr RT, and will incorporate automated assembly lines to increase production to tens of thousands of vehicles annually at full capacity.
Waymo has also streamlined its vehicle commissioning process, enabling Phoenix fleet vehicles to drive autonomously from the factory directly into service, picking up passengers in under 30 minutes. Vehicles destined for other cities can begin public service within hours of arriving at local depots. According to Ryan McNamara, Waymo’s Vice President of Operations, this facility is the “epicenter” of the company’s growth, offering cost efficiency and scalability.
This expansion strengthens Waymo’s ability to serve more riders quickly, reinforcing its position in the autonomous driving industry.
