Volkswagen Group has teamed up with Valeo and Mobileye to advance the driver assistance systems in its future MQB-based vehicles. This partnership focuses on upgrading the systems to Level 2+, which means enhanced partially automated driving. The collaboration aims to boost safety and comfort for drivers while making procurement more efficient and cost-effective. It’s a key part of Volkswagen’s transformation strategy, set to roll out in the coming years, meeting both customer needs and regulatory standards.
Key Highlights
- Integration of top-tier hardware and software from Valeo and Mobileye
- Upgrade to Level 2+ for improved partially automated driving
- Features like hands-free driving, traffic jam assist, hazard detection, parking assist, driver monitoring, and 360-degree emergency assist
- Future-ready tech, including augmented reality displays
- Streamlined procurement for efficiency and cost savings across brands
- Centralized system replacing multiple ECUs, enhancing performance and enabling over-the-air updates
This initiative targets Volkswagen’s upcoming MQB platform vehicles, aiming to make high-volume models safer and more enjoyable to drive. By combining Valeo’s high-performance electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and parking solutions with Mobileye’s Surround ADAS™ platform—featuring the EyeQ™6 High processor and mapping tech—the new system offers cutting-edge capabilities. A 360-degree ring of cameras and radars supports hands-free driving on approved roads, smart parking, and better safety for everyone on the road.
The shift to a single, centralized system marks a big leap forward. It replaces multiple ECUs, improving efficiency and allowing updates over the air to keep up with changing safety rules. Dirk Große-Loheide, a Volkswagen executive, noted, “This cooperation supports our transformation by streamlining procurement and enhancing technology while keeping costs competitive.” Marc Vrecko of Valeo added, “We’re excited to deliver affordable, state-of-the-art driving features.” Mobileye’s Amnon Shashua emphasized, “This approach puts AI innovations to work, upgrading safety and comfort.”
This partnership positions Volkswagen to lead in vehicle safety and automation, delivering innovative, efficient solutions for the future.
