Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation and IAV Group have announced a strategic partnership to develop virtual validation services for automated driving systems. This collaboration aims to establish a foundation for future certification and homologation processes for highly automated driving systems (Level 3 and above). By leveraging their combined expertise in AI-driven test scenarios, distributed co-simulation, and innovative validation methods, the two companies seek to advance the development and global adoption of next-generation virtual homologation in the automotive industry.
Key Highlights
- Toshiba and IAV join forces to create virtual validation services for automated driving systems.
- The partnership emphasizes AI-driven test scenarios, distributed co-simulation, and new validation methods.
- It targets a framework for future certification and homologation of highly automated driving (Level 3 and above).
- The collaboration aims to speed up the adoption of advanced virtual homologation globally.
- Toshiba and IAV will present their work at the prostep IVIP symposium 2025 in Berlin.
The automotive industry is witnessing rapid progress in autonomous driving and vehicle connectivity, increasing the complexity of model-based development. This approach, which supports virtual prototyping and data sharing, demands sophisticated validation platforms. Toshiba and IAV are addressing this need by integrating realistic scenarios generated by AI Large Language Models into their solutions.
Building on prior successful projects, Toshiba and IAV have established a foundation of trust and technical synergy. Toshiba brings its VenetDCP distributed co-simulation platform, while IAV contributes its expertise in AI-driven scenario generation through tools like IAV Mela. Together, they aim to deliver cutting-edge virtual validation services for automated driving systems worldwide.
A key focus of the partnership is creating a global framework for international certification and homologation, especially for highly automated driving functions. This involves sharing knowledge and methodologies across borders, combining each company’s strengths for a globally significant impact.
The collaboration will be showcased at the prostep IVIP symposium 2025, held May 13-14 at the Berlin Congress Center. Their joint presentation, “AI-supported virtual validation and homologation of AD/ADAS systems utilizing distributed co-simulation,” is scheduled for May 14 from 2:35 PM to 3:05 PM. They will also exhibit their technologies at Booth #44.
Carsten Rinka, Chief Sales Officer at IAV GmbH, stated, “This partnership with Toshiba unites deep expertise and a shared vision for automated driving’s future, delivering scalable, safe, and globally relevant validation solutions.”
Takehiro Kai, Director at Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation, added, “By formalizing our prior collaboration, we’re accelerating the development and adoption of next-generation virtual homologation for the automotive industry.”
