Torc Robotics, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, has announced the lease of a new facility in Hillwood’s AllianceTexas development to establish a dedicated hub for its autonomous truck testing and commercial operations. This facility, located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, will serve as a center for autonomous driving testing, customer freight pilots, and commercialization planned for 2027. The hub’s strategic location along the I-35 corridor, a major freight route, positions Torc to leverage the growing autonomous logistics market.
Key Highlights
- Strategic Location: The new hub is situated along the Dallas-Laredo I-35 corridor, the busiest freight route in the U.S., near Laredo, the nation’s largest economic port of entry.
- Comprehensive Facility: The 17-acre site features 22,000 square feet of office space, a customer experience center, and fleet management control centers.
- Growth Opportunities: The hub supports Torc’s productization phase and aims to enhance its operational capabilities and access to critical resources.
- Talent Expansion: Torc is also expanding its Ann Arbor, Michigan, workforce, with plans to hire over 100 new employees.
“Establishing our presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, a key region for the future of autonomous trucking, is a critical milestone for Torc,” said Peter Vaughan Schmidt, CEO of Torc. The location offers a combination of logistical advantages, talent access, and proximity to vital freight routes.
The facility will be operational in early 2025, with phased construction ensuring compliance with autonomous vehicle standards. This expansion reflects Torc’s commitment to advancing autonomous driving and solidifying its leadership in the logistics industry.
Andrew Culhane, Torc’s Chief Commercial Officer, added, “This hub not only expands our operational footprint but also reinforces our commitment to advancing autonomous technology.”
Hillwood’s AllianceTexas development lauded the partnership, highlighting the region’s role as a hub for mobility innovation and supply chain resilience. Ian Kinne, Director of Logistics Innovation at Hillwood, remarked that the collaboration underscores AllianceTexas’s unique position to support logistics and mobility advancements.
