Torc and Aeva have announced an expanded collaboration to accelerate the development of autonomous truck technology, focusing on improved safety and smarter decision-making. The partnership will leverage advanced 4D LiDAR sensing data and a Freightliner Cascadia platform to refine Torc’s Virtual Driver software for long-haul applications. This effort builds upon their multi-year production agreement to commercialize autonomous trucks by 2027.

Key Highlights:

  • Enhanced Collaboration: Torc and Aeva will integrate 4D LiDAR data and share vehicle platforms for improved long-range sensing applications.
  • Technological Advancements: The collaboration supports Torc’s Level 4 autonomous trucking initiatives through shared engineering efforts.
  • Production Milestone: This partnership strengthens Daimler Truck’s 2027 goal of deploying series production autonomous trucks.
  • Global Integration: Joint efforts between global teams aim to advance safety and reliability in autonomous trucking.

“Aeva is pioneering the next generation of 4D LiDAR technology, and we’re excited to enter a new phase of our collaboration to continue to position us as industry leaders in autonomous driving technology for production deployment at scale,” said Peter Vaughan Schmidt, Torc CEO.

The partnership builds upon the foundation established by a production agreement signed last year, designating Aeva as Daimler Truck’s supplier for long-range LiDAR sensors. These sensors will be instrumental in enabling autonomous commercial vehicles to navigate safely and effectively.

“Torc Robotics is a leader in commercializing autonomous truck technology, and this expansion of our collaboration is a testament to the capabilities of our talented team and the strength of our production partnership with Torc and Daimler Truck,” noted Soroush Salehian, Co-Founder and CEO of Aeva.
