TIER IV, a leader in open-source software for autonomous driving, has announced the launch of the Minibus 2.0, its latest electric autonomous vehicle. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the Minibus 2.0 introduces advanced features to meet the growing demands of the autonomous vehicle market.

Key Highlights:

  • Compliance with Japan’s Level 4 autonomous driving criteria
  • Enhanced redundancy systems for improved safety
  • Next-generation architecture compatible with TIER IV’s reference designs
  • Advanced sensor suite including LiDARs, cameras, radars, and more
  • Scheduled deliveries to begin in late 2024

Minibus 2.0 has been engineered to meet the Japanese government’s Level 4 autonomous driving standards. An important upgrade from the Minibus 1.0 is the enhanced redundancy system, which is crucial for ensuring safety during Level 4 operations. The vehicle is powered by an autonomous driving development kit featuring a next-generation architecture, optimized for compatibility with TIER IV’s reference designs.

Equipped with a comprehensive array of advanced sensors, the Minibus 2.0 includes long- and short-range LiDARs, object and traffic light detection cameras, radars, an inertial measurement unit, and a global navigation satellite system sensor. These sensors are fully compatible with TIER IV’s electronic and vehicle control units, enhancing the vehicle’s autonomous driving performance.

Deliveries of the Minibus 2.0 to initial customers are scheduled to begin by late 2024, with initial deployments planned across various regions in Japan. Looking ahead, TIER IV aims to expand deployments led by local enterprises and explore international opportunities to meet the increasing demand for autonomous buses.
