Subaru has chosen onsemi Hyperlux AR0823AT image sensors for its next-generation EyeSight AI-integrated stereo-camera system. These advanced image sensors will enhance the safety of future vehicle models by providing superior visual data for Subaru’s driver assistance technology. The partnership between Subaru and onsemi aims to achieve safer driving environments and work toward the ambitious goal of zero fatal road accidents by 2030.

Key Highlights:

  • onsemi will be the primary image sensor supplier for Subaru’s next-generation EyeSight system.
  • The Hyperlux sensors feature whole pixel design and High Dynamic Range (HDR) for improved clarity and accuracy.
  • Functional safety features ensure a higher level of reliability and compliance with automotive safety standards.
  • The partnership builds on a longstanding collaboration between onsemi and Subaru to continuously improve vehicle safety systems.

The system leverages the Hyperlux image sensor’s high-performance imaging capabilities to provide data that enhances the AI algorithm’s ability to interpret driving environments and make critical decisions. Hassane El-Khoury, president and CEO of onsemi, emphasized that “capturing precise and reliable visual data is paramount to the success of AI-enabled driver assistance systems and significantly improves overall vehicle safety.”

Advanced Features for Optimal Performance

The Hyperlux AR0823AT utilizes a whole pixel design, ensuring clear imaging in all lighting conditions. This technology works in tandem with Subaru’s stereo-camera system to capture synchronized images, mimicking human vision to determine depth, size, and distance of objects effectively. The High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature allows the sensor to handle varying light conditions, which ensures that both brightly lit and shadowed areas are visible, enabling the AI to make informed decisions based on comprehensive data.

The Hyperlux AR0823AT image sensors are also built with functional safety features, complying with Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) C standards. These features actively monitor sensor functionality, and if issues arise, they enable corrective actions such as resetting the camera or alerting the driver, thus enhancing overall system reliability.

Commitment to Road Safety

Subaru aims to achieve “zero fatal road accidents by 2030,” which includes fatalities involving Subaru vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Eiji Shibata, executive officer and chief digital car officer of Subaru Corporation, stated, “We regard onsemi, a market leader in automotive image sensing technology, as a partner who shares our vision and dedication in pursuing safety.” Subaru plans to enhance its EyeSight system’s capabilities using onsemi’s advanced technology to help realize this vision.
