Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) recently launched SteerAI, a new autonomous mobility venture that transforms standard industrial vehicles into self-operating units. With a focus on logistics and defense, SteerAI’s technology enhances operational precision and efficiency in complex environments.
Key Highlights:
- Powered by VentureOne: SteerAI is backed by ATRC’s commercialization arm, VentureOne, ensuring innovative development and deployment.
- Advanced AI System: Integrates cutting-edge hardware, software, and fleet management systems for autonomous ground and eventually sea vehicles.
- Operational Efficiency: SteerAI’s technology optimizes vehicle deployment, enhancing mission accuracy and resource efficiency.
SteerAI’s AI-driven hardware and software stack empowers standard industrial vehicles to perform complex missions autonomously. It aims to reduce reliance on human labor, minimize operational risks, and optimize time and resource usage. This technology has been developed by experts from the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), ATRC’s applied research division, to address critical demands in high-stakes fields.
H.E. Faisal Al Bannai, Adviser to the UAE President and Secretary General of ATRC, remarked on SteerAI’s broader vision: “The launch of SteerAI is a significant milestone in solidifying the UAE’s leadership in autonomous technology. At ATRC, our vision is to continuously push the boundaries of innovation, and SteerAI exemplifies how we are turning groundbreaking research into real-world solutions that drive tangible impact.”
Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, added, “We have not simply created an autonomous vehicle—we have created an autonomous vehicle’s ‘brain.’ The advanced navigation algorithms work with cutting-edge sensors as part of an efficient, modular system that can work on any vehicle, and that has the potential to transform the way we move.”
The autonomous capabilities of SteerAI-equipped vehicles allow for precise navigation, hazard detection, and adaptability in challenging or unmapped environments. SteerAI’s system is designed to support full autonomy while enabling remote fleet management, including mission planning, real-time monitoring, and data-driven insights for optimized performance.
Reda Nidhakou, Acting CEO of VentureOne, noted, “SteerAI launch represents a major milestone in our journey of driving positive impact through the use of advanced technologies. The mobility needs in logistics and defense are intense, complex, and costly. Our vehicle-agnostic autonomous system redefines operational efficiency and precision while protecting companies’ most valuable assets—their people. Our mission is to leverage technology to help our partners transform the way they operate.”
Following AI71, which launched in late 2023, SteerAI marks VentureOne’s second innovation, pushing ATRC further in its commitment to AI-powered advancements across industries.
