Smart #3 Earns Top EuroNCAP Rating

The smart #3 model has achieved a notable milestone, securing a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP tests announced at the end of 2023. This acclaim is largely attributed to its integration of the Valeo Smart Safety 360 (VSS 360) system. The VSS 360, a comprehensive driver assistance system, enhances safety and parking assistance across various vehicle models, emphasizing its affordability and minimal impact on vehicle architecture and costs.

Valeo’s innovation in this field is not new. The company stands as a global leader in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and has maintained its position as the market leader in smart front camera technology. Since 2019, Valeo has equipped 12 OEMs worldwide and produced over 20 million smart front cameras. Their extensive portfolio in ADAS solutions positions them at the forefront of vehicle safety and automation.

Central to the VSS 360 system is the smart front camera, which serves as the heart of the architecture. This camera, along with its integrated, affordable, and scalable system approach, allows for the combination of L2/L2+ ADAS functions. These functions adhere to rigorous safety standards, including the latest GSR1 and NCAP requirements. Depending on the specifications of the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), the front camera can be connected to various sensors and radars, serving as a central computer. This scalable approach is instrumental in optimizing cost-efficiency by integrating different safety and ADAS sensors into a single front-camera-based architecture.

Marc Vrecko, President of Valeo Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems Business Group, highlighted the system’s scalability and efficiency. “Our scalable Smart Safety 360 System leverages Valeo’s expertise in both hardware and software,” he said. He emphasized the ability of OEMs to offer more ADAS functions with limited architectural and cost impact, utilizing technologies already present in vehicles.

Mr. Yang Jun, Global CTO of smart Automobile, also commented on the collaboration between smart and Valeo. He stressed smart’s commitment to intelligent driving technology through open cooperation and independent research and development. The smart #3 model, developed in close cooperation with Valeo, showcases exemplary engineering and development capabilities, evident in its performance in the 2023 Euro NCAP safety Assist test.

The smart #3 model’s achievement in the Euro NCAP tests is a testament to the effective collaboration between smart Automobile and Valeo. It also underscores Valeo’s pivotal role in advancing vehicle safety technologies, marking a significant step towards making advanced safety features accessible to a broader market.
