NODAR‘s advanced stereo vision technology is set to transform automated parking by utilizing existing vehicle cameras to create detailed 3D maps, effectively eliminating the need for ultrasonic sensors. This breakthrough offers high-density 3D data around the vehicle, ensuring precise path planning and vehicle guidance.

Key Highlights

  • Innovative Technology: Utilizes existing vehicle cameras to generate high-resolution 3D point clouds.
  • Enhanced Precision: Provides 360˚ 3D data with greater precision, longer range, and higher reliability compared to ultrasonic sensors.
  • Eliminates Ultrasonic Sensors: Removes the need for multiple ultrasonic sensors, which are prone to inaccuracies and aesthetic issues.
  • Comprehensive Detection: Capable of detecting objects as small as 1 cm and as far as 12 meters away.
  • Improves Aesthetics: Avoids the use of visible ultrasonic sensors, maintaining the vehicle’s sleek design.

In tests with a leading OEM, NODAR’s Hammerhead™ advanced stereo vision solution outperformed ultrasonic sensors by providing 360˚ 3D data with greater precision, range, and reliability. The system can detect objects as close as 0.6 meters and as small as 1 cm, while accurately mapping data up to 12 meters away. This capability enables the system to handle complex parking scenarios, such as perpendicular parking, and detect small objects like parking stops.

Traditional automated parking systems rely on up to 12 ultrasonic sensors to understand the vehicle’s surroundings. These sensors are limited by their sensitivity to weather and temperature, restricted field-of-view, and inconsistent performance, often leading to halted parking attempts and driver frustration. Moreover, ultrasonic sensors disrupt the vehicle’s aesthetics, creating visible “dimples” that collect dirt and impact airflow.

NODAR’s patent-pending computer vision-based automated parking system offers several advantages:

  • Range and Accuracy: Detects objects as close as 0.6 meters and up to 12 meters away with sub-1cm error within 10 meters.
  • Mapping and Detection: Combines 2D camera images with detailed 3D point cloud data to detect parking spots, curbs, and narrow poles.
  • Reliability: Reconstructs ground surfaces accurately, unaffected by environmental conditions.
  • Multiple Views: Provides 360˚ bird’s-eye and surround views for comprehensive data.
  • Efficient Parking: Enables faster automated parking with real-time 3D data generation.

“NODAR is advancing hands-free parking capabilities in L2+ vehicles by leveraging our state-of-the-art stereo vision technology to produce a more reliable automated parking solution,” said Leaf Jiang, Chief Executive Officer at NODAR. “Drivers want a fast and reliable automated parking system that makes all types of parking effortless and safe.”
