QNX and WeRide Team Up for ADAS

QNX, a division of BlackBerry, and WeRide, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, have announced a partnership to advance Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs) for automakers and suppliers worldwide. This collaboration combines QNX’s reliable software with WeRide’s innovative autonomous driving solutions to enhance vehicle safety and efficiency.

Key Highlights

  • QNX and WeRide collaborate to advance Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs).
  • WeRide uses QNX software to power its ADAS WePilot solution for L2++ vehicles.
  • First project with Bosch began mass production in late 2023.
  • Chery Exceed ES and ET models feature the technology.
  • QNX provides a safe, secure foundation for autonomous systems.
  • WeRide’s ADAS includes advanced features like 360-degree obstacle avoidance.
  • Partnership aims to improve transportation safety and efficiency.

In this collaboration, WeRide has integrated QNX OS for Safety into its ADAS WePilot system, designed for L2++ passenger vehicles. These vehicles can perform advanced tasks like lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control, though a human driver must stay alert. The partnership’s first major milestone came in late 2023, when WeRide and Bosch began mass production, equipping Chery’s Exceed ES and ET models with an intelligent driving assistance system that excels in diverse scenarios.

The QNX OS for Safety ensures reliability and security, enabling WeRide’s ADAS to offer defensive driving, smooth lane changes, and 360-degree obstacle avoidance. This system works in all weather conditions without maps, thanks to its map-free technology and sensor fusion, enhanced by WeRide’s deep learning algorithms. It meets top industry standards, including ISO/SAE 21434, ISO 26262, and ASPICE CL2, ensuring quality and safety.

Hua Zhong, WeRide’s Senior Vice President of Engineering, said, “Our mission is to transform transportation with safe, efficient, and sustainable autonomous solutions. Partnering with QNX helps us improve driver assistance and move toward a future where self-driving cars reduce traffic, emissions, and accidents.”

Dhiraj Handa, QNX’s Asia Pacific Senior Vice President, added, “WeRide is pushing autonomous driving forward, and we’re proud to support them with our high-performance software. The success with Chery models shows the potential for other automakers.”

Trusted by brands like BMW, Toyota, and Volkswagen, QNX powers innovations across the automotive industry, from driver assistance to infotainment systems.

This partnership marks a step toward safer, smarter transportation.
