Renesas Electronics Corporation has expanded its R-Car family of system-on-chips (SoCs) with the introduction of the R-Car V4M series and the enhanced R-Car V4H series. These SoCs target entry-level Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for Level 2 and Level 2+ applications, offering robust AI processing and optimized power efficiency. The new devices aim to meet the growing demand for high-performance, cost-sensitive ADAS applications while maintaining scalability and software compatibility with previous R-Car models, ultimately reducing engineering costs for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.
Key Highlights:
- Target Market: The R-Car V4M and V4H series focus on high-volume Level 2 and Level 2+ ADAS solutions.
- AI Processing Power: The R-Car V4M series delivers up to 17 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) of deep learning performance.
- Power Efficiency: These SoCs offer 9 TOPS/W performance, consuming significantly less power than comparable devices.
- Scalability: Pin and software compatibility across the R-Car family enables efficient scaling for different ADAS applications.
- Development Support: The R-Car Open Access (RoX) platform provides a comprehensive SDV development environment with hardware, software, and tools for fast and secure vehicle development.
Based on a 7-nanometer manufacturing process, the R-Car V4M series offers high-speed image processing and accurate object recognition, utilizing cameras, radar, and LiDAR. These features make the devices ideal for applications such as front smart camera systems, surround-view systems, and driver monitoring systems. By delivering up to 81K DMIPS (Dhrystone Million Instructions Per Second) for application processing, they provide excellent performance while remaining power-efficient, consuming 50% less power in full-feature smart cameras than similar products.
The R-Car V4M series also maintains ASIL D compliance, the highest automotive safety standard, supporting advanced AI and vision-based technologies. In terms of development flexibility, Renesas’ R-Car Open Access (RoX) platform enables automotive developers to leverage cloud-based tools to validate and optimize their models, supporting a wide range of scalable compute solutions.
Additionally, Renesas continues to expand its ADAS product lineup with the development of its 5th generation R-Car SoCs, which will further enhance performance across multiple automotive domains, including cockpit and infotainment systems. Renesas remains committed to providing scalable, power-efficient solutions for all vehicle classes, from entry-level models to luxury vehicles, using a unified development platform.
Availability: The R-Car V4M and V4H devices are currently being sampled by leading automotive manufacturers, with mass production expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
