Pony.ai has announced the launch of “driver out” testing for its autonomous vehicles on expressways and highways in Beijing. As one of the first companies licensed for this level of autonomous testing, Pony.ai continues to advance autonomous driving innovation with operations extending across high-speed routes in the city.
Key Highlights:
- First in Beijing: Pony.ai is among the first companies to secure a license for “driver out” testing on expressways and highways.
- Testing Scope: The vehicles, operating without a driver behind the wheel but with a safety driver in the passenger seat, cover nearly 90 kilometers (56 miles) of roads between Beijing’s Yizhuang District, Beijing Daxing International Airport, and Beijing South Railway Station.
- Diverse Conditions: Operations include both daytime and late-night conditions, with airport routes active from 7:00 am to 1:00 am and railway station routes running from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Historic Milestone: This marks the first time “driver out” testing has been permitted on these routes since they were opened in 2024.
This latest achievement underscores Pony.ai’s commitment to pioneering safe and efficient autonomous driving technology while navigating the complexities of real-world conditions.
