Fusion Processing, known for its expertise in automated driving systems, has teamed up with Construct Invest, a firm focused on advancing autonomous vehicle technologies. Their joint effort aims to transform airport ground transportation with zero-emission, fully automated buses. The CAVstar® system enables Level 4 automation, allowing these buses to operate without human intervention in designated conditions.
The CAVstar® system stands out for its energy efficiency. Over 90,000 kilometers of passenger service, these buses have achieved a 7% reduction in energy consumption compared to manually driven vehicles. Fusion Processing projects this will increase to 20% by the end of 2025, especially in airport settings.
Safety is a major advantage, as the system eliminates human error, crucial in busy airport environments. Its smooth driving reduces wear on fuel, tires, and brakes, lowering maintenance costs. Estimates suggest airports could see operational cost savings of around 30%. Additionally, remote operation capabilities allow one operator to manage multiple buses from a control room, boosting efficiency and optimizing staff use.
Airports globally aim to cut costs and carbon emissions while improving passenger experiences. This partnership delivers a sustainable, cost-effective solution. Fusion’s CEO, Jim Hutchinson, noted, “This integrated transport solution reduces costs, enhances sustainability and safety, and improves passenger service.” Construct Invest’s CEO, Karsten Baltzer, added, “Fusion’s proven CAVstar® technology aligns with our mission for innovative transport solutions.”
The companies will showcase their innovation at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Madrid, Spain, from April 8-10, 2025. Fusion Processing, founded in 2012, has logged over 2 million kilometers with its systems, while Construct Invest drives real-world autonomous vehicle deployment.
