Humanetics, a global leader in automotive testing solutions, has introduced its newest innovation, the DrivingRobot modular (DRm). This advanced system is designed to enhance Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) testing across a broad spectrum of vehicles, from passenger cars to heavy-duty trucks. With its modular design, the DRm provides a flexible, cost-effective, and precise solution for OEMs and testing facilities, addressing the growing demand for safer vehicle testing protocols, especially for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). As road safety regulations tighten globally, this cutting-edge robot aims to ensure vehicles meet evolving standards efficiently.
Key Highlights:
- Versatile Design: The DRm system supports a wide range of vehicles, from passenger cars to heavy-duty trucks, enhancing testing flexibility.
- Modular Setup: The DRm’s modular structure allows for separate steering and pedal robots, accommodating various vehicle geometries.
- Heavy Vehicle Focus: Increased attention on HGV safety aligns with industry trends, as reflected in Euro NCAP and NHTSA testing protocols.
- Precision Testing: High torque and precise control enable accurate simulation of real-world driving conditions, including emergency maneuvers.
- Future-Ready: The system supports Truck Safety Protocols and the upcoming Euro NCAP tests for heavy-duty trucks, expected by 2024-2025.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently introduced regulations requiring automatic emergency braking (AEB) to be standard in passenger cars and light trucks by 2029. At the same time, Euro NCAP is setting up testing standards for heavy-duty trucks, further highlighting the importance of vehicle safety. The DRm system addresses these growing demands, ensuring vehicle manufacturers meet stringent safety standards.
The DRm is equipped with components like the SteeringRobot modular (SRm), PedalRobot modular (PRm™), and the Steering Wheel Adapter, making it adaptable to different vehicle sizes. This modularity enables testing facilities to deploy components individually or as a complete package, such as the DRm150™ for HGVs and the upcoming DRm60™ for passenger vehicles. This versatility significantly reduces test preparation times, enhancing overall efficiency.
Humanetics’ president, Mark Westen, emphasized the robot’s impact, stating: “We developed the DRm to be a game-changer in the world of vehicle testing. With its modular system, it provides unparalleled flexibility for ADAS testing across multiple vehicle types.” This innovation plays a crucial role in advancing towards the Vision Zero goal of eliminating road fatalities.
In addition to its versatility, the DRm system stands out for its user-friendly installation, featuring the first tool-free steering robot and a pedal robot that requires only a single tool. This ease of use further enhances its appeal for OEMs and testing facilities aiming to streamline operations and improve safety standards.
