Lyft, Inc. and Mobileye have announced an alliance aimed at facilitating the large-scale commercialization of autonomous vehicle services. The collaboration leverages Mobileye’s self-driving technology and Lyft’s transportation network to create an accessible platform for fleet operators. This partnership will help bring autonomous vehicles (AVs) to urban areas across North America, tapping into Lyft’s extensive customer base.

Key Highlights:

  • Mobileye’s AV technology will be integrated into purpose-built vehicles, offering a complete solution for fleet operators.
  • Lyft’s network of 40 million annual riders will be accessible to Mobileye Drive-equipped AV fleets, enhancing deployment capabilities.
  • Cloud-based AV demand technology will connect Mobileye Drive vehicles with fleet operators for efficient fleet utilization.
  • The alliance provides turnkey AV solutions for fleet operators, including access to Lyft’s rider demand and partner APIs.

Mobileye will provide autonomous vehicle technology to manufacturers producing AV-ready vehicles, allowing fleet operators to purchase these vehicles equipped with Mobileye’s cutting-edge systems. The alliance will give these operators access to Lyft’s expansive rider network, creating a seamless platform for AV fleet deployment and maximizing fleet efficiency and profitability.

The companies also plan to utilize Mobileye’s new cloud-based AV demand technology, which will enable fleet operators to connect Mobileye Drive-equipped vehicles to the network. This integration is expected to facilitate seamless monetization of AV fleets, ultimately offering Lyft users faster access to autonomous rides.

David Risher, CEO of Lyft, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: “Mobileye’s full-stack technology is an important part of getting autonomous fleets Lyft-ready. As we make more AVs available to our 40 million annual riders, we’re laser-focused on building a platform where fleet owners will be proud to put their assets to work. We welcome Mobileye as an important strategic partner on the road to an autonomous future.”

Mobileye’s President and CEO, Prof. Amnon Shashua, echoed these sentiments: “Cooperating with leading mobility providers and operators are essential steps to bring autonomous mobility services to reality. Enabling Mobileye Drive with Lyft’s network of 40 million annual riders in North America would allow our AV customers to reach new markets and geographies with autonomous services and provide the benefits of the technology through a sustainable business.”

This joint effort further underscores Mobileye’s commitment to expanding autonomous mobility worldwide. Mobileye Drive-equipped vehicles are already being piloted with mobility operators across multiple regions, including Germany, Norway, Croatia, and the United States. This partnership marks another critical step towards realizing autonomous transportation at scale.

Founded in 1999, Mobileye is at the forefront of autonomous driving technology, providing solutions that range from advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to fully autonomous vehicles. With world-renowned expertise in AI, computer vision, and mapping, Mobileye is committed to revolutionizing mobility. By the end of 2023, approximately 180 million vehicles globally have been equipped with Mobileye technology.
