Innoviz Technologies, a top provider of LiDAR sensors for self-driving vehicles, has expanded its partnership with Volkswagen Autonomous Mobility. This collaboration focuses on integrating the advanced InnovizTwo LiDAR units into Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz AD, a Level 4 autonomous shuttle slated for release in 2025. The move is set to streamline the deployment process and support MOIA’s ambitious expansion into various European and U.S. cities starting in 2026.
Key Highlights:
- Expanded collaboration between Innoviz and Volkswagen
- InnovizTwo LiDAR integration into ID. Buzz AD
- Supports MOIA’s market growth in Europe and the U.S.
- Mass production readiness with Fabrinet partnership
- Nine LiDAR units per vehicle for 360° coverage
This step forward builds on prior successes where Innoviz’s LiDAR tech was integrated into Volkswagen’s vehicles. Each ID. Buzz AD will feature nine InnovizTwo LiDAR units, ensuring full 360° sensing coverage. This design enhances safety and navigation in busy urban areas, a vital aspect for autonomous shuttles serving city routes.
Innoviz has also teamed up with Fabrinet to mass-produce the InnovizTwo LiDAR platform, signaling its preparedness for large-scale manufacturing. Production is scheduled to begin next year, aligning with broader commercialization goals.
Christian Senger, CEO of Volkswagen Autonomous Mobility, praised the partnership: “We are excited to continue our work with Innoviz, improving the autonomous performance of our vehicle fleet.
