General Motors recently set a record for the largest hands-free vehicle caravan using its Super Cruise technology. A total of 20 Super Cruise-enabled vehicles crossed the Bay Bridge between San Francisco and Oakland, demonstrating the capabilities of GM’s hands-free driving system in an unprecedented convoy.
Key Highlights:
- Super Cruise debuted in 2017 as the first true hands-free advanced driver assistance system in the automotive industry.
- Currently available on 20 different vehicle models, offering the widest selection of hands-free options in the market.
- Only hands-free system that also supports towing capabilities.
- Caravan included models from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC.
GM initially launched Super Cruise as an industry-first driver assistance system in 2017. The technology is now available on 20 vehicle models, making GM the leader in hands-free vehicle offerings. In comparison, GM’s closest competitors only provide hands-free technology on nine or fewer models. Super Cruise also stands out as the only system on the market that allows for hands-free towing, adding a layer of convenience and utility for drivers.
In an effort to expand access, GM has introduced Super Cruise across a wide range of vehicles at different price points. This move is aimed at bringing the comfort and convenience of hands-free technology to an even broader customer base. The record-setting caravan across the Bay Bridge included a diverse set of vehicles:
- Buick Enclave
- Cadillac CT4, CT5, Escalade, LYRIQ, OPTIQ
- Chevrolet Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Silverado, Silverado EV, Suburban, Tahoe, Traverse
- GMC Acadia, HUMMER EV SUV, HUMMER EV Pickup, Sierra, Sierra EV, Yukon, Yukon XL
Looking ahead, GM plans to further expand its hands-free capabilities. In 2025 and beyond, Super Cruise will be available on upcoming models, including the Cadillac VISTIQ and Cadillac Escalade IQ, with additional models yet to be announced.
Drivers should note that while Super Cruise includes Automatic Lane Change and Lane Change on Demand, these features are not available while towing. GM emphasizes the importance of always paying attention while driving, even with hands-free technology.
