Gatik, a trailblazer in autonomous middle-mile logistics, has taken a bold step toward ensuring the safe rollout of its driverless technology across North America. The company recently announced the creation of a Safety Advisory Council, tapping a diverse group of experts from government and industry to guide its safety strategy. This move underscores Gatik’s dedication to transparency and accountability as it pioneers the future of autonomous trucking.
Key Highlights:
- Gatik establishes Safety Advisory Council for driverless operations.
- Council features former US DOT officials and industry leaders.
- Emphasis on safety culture, technology, and public education.
- Supports Gatik’s rigorous Safety Assessment Framework.
The Safety Advisory Council will work closely with Gatik’s Internal Safety Review Board, offering independent advice on critical areas like safety protocols, technology, and training. Beyond internal guidance, the council will also engage with stakeholders—government bodies, law enforcement, and the public—to explain Gatik’s safety-first approach. With over 170 years of combined expertise, the council members are well-equipped to steer Gatik toward a trustworthy deployment of its Freight-Only operations.
Notable council members include Mark Rosekind, Ph.D., a former NHTSA Administrator, and Jack Van Steenburg, ex-Executive Director of the FMCSA. Joining them are Jane Lappin, a co-founder of the Automated Road Transportation Symposium, Eric Fuller, former CEO of U.S. Xpress, and Carla Bailo, past leader of the Center for Automotive Research. Each brings a deep commitment to road safety, aligning with Gatik’s vision.
Gatik’s safety efforts don’t stop at the council. The company has developed a Safety Assessment Framework, featuring over 700 safety portfolios evaluated by independent third parties. This framework ensures everything from engineering quality to cybersecurity meets the highest standards. As Gatik scales its operations, it promises to share progress updates publicly, fostering confidence among customers and regulators alike.
By forming this council, Gatik is setting a new benchmark for safety in autonomous trucking, guided by some of the industry’s most respected voices.
