Cruise has joined forces with Numotion to launch a six-month wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV) pilot program in Houston. This initiative, offering free, reliable rides for eligible Numotion customers, aims to streamline travel to and from Numotion’s local facility for essential wheelchair repairs, ultimately supporting greater mobility and reduced wait times within the community.
- Human-driven Chevy Traverses with BraunAbility upgrades
- Specialized driver training tailored for WAV assistance
- Collaboration with GM’s Accessibility Center of Excellence
- Coverage spanning more than 90 Houston zip codes
Developed through close coordination with Numotion and General Motors’ Accessibility Center of Excellence, this pilot leverages two human-driven, award-winning Chevy Traverses, each outfitted with wheelchair-accessible modifications by BraunAbility. These vehicles are operated by drivers who have undergone specific training designed to ensure proper support for riders. When Numotion identifies a client who could benefit from the service, that individual can schedule a ride with Cruise for a more convenient, timely visit to the Numotion facility.
“Numotion is excited to partner with Cruise to offer a seamless and convenient solution for wheelchair users in the Houston area. By providing transportation to and from repair appointments, we’re alleviating a significant stressor and providing a way for our customers to receive their service and repair faster,” said Mike Swinford, CEO of Numotion. “We’re constantly striving to innovate and improve the lives of our customers, and this collaboration demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing beneficial customer experiences.”
“Accessibility is core to our mission at Cruise. This pilot program with Numotion is doing more than providing accessible rides – it’s about empowering people in the community with greater mobility and independence, while also building learnings to better our service in the future,” said Craig Glidden, President and Chief Administrative Officer at Cruise.
This WAV pilot covers a substantial area of Houston, incorporating over 90 zip codes, including but not limited to 77001, 77002, 77003, 77004, and various others listed. By offering a robust geographic reach, the program ensures that eligible users have greater access to the support they need.
