Embotech, a leading innovator in autonomous driving solutions for industrial logistics, has raised 23.5 million CHF (~$27 million USD) in a Series B funding round. Led by Emerald Technology Ventures and Yttrium, with participation from BMW i Ventures, Nabtesco Technology Ventures, Sustainable Forward Capital Fund, and RKK VC, the funding will drive the expansion of Embotech’s Automated Vehicle Marshalling (AVM) and Autonomous Terminal Tractor (ATT) solutions. These technologies aim to revolutionize logistics operations across Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Asia.
Key Highlights:
- Landmark contracts: Multi-year rollout of AVM and ATT solutions in automotive factories and ports.
- AVM partnership with BMW: Operational in BMW plants with expansion to Spartanburg, SC, by 2025.
- ATT deployment in Rotterdam: 30 autonomous tractors to be operational within two years.
- Technological advancements: Solutions leverage LiDAR, GPS, and real-time optimization for unmatched efficiency.
- Strategic benefits: Addresses driver shortages, reduces CO2 emissions, and improves operational transparency.
Embotech’s AVM solution is a game-changer in vehicle logistics. Already implemented in BMW’s Dingolfing and Leipzig factories, the system moves vehicles along complex routes without drivers, using off-the-shelf LiDAR sensors integrated into existing infrastructure. By early 2025, this technology will handle thousands of vehicles daily, scaling its impact globally. Its ability to adapt to changing production layouts and vehicle models positions Embotech as a leader in the logistics automation space.
In the ATT sector, Embotech is set to deploy 30 autonomous terminal tractors at the Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest port. These tractors, powered by Level 4 AV Kits, operate in mixed traffic conditions with exceptional safety and precision. The deployment, scheduled over the next two years, follows rigorous testing in demanding environments, underscoring the technology’s reliability.
Embotech’s shared technology platform enhances efficiency across its AVM and ATT solutions. By enabling continuous operation and reducing Total Cost of Ownership, the company delivers a robust response to global logistics challenges. “Embotech’s offering is an ideal way for companies to accelerate their path to reliable autonomy,” said Mehran Zaker of Emerald Technology Ventures.
This funding round will further Embotech’s mission to transform industrial logistics, paving the way for safer, more sustainable, and efficient operations worldwide.
