Continental Mobile Robots, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), has introduced advanced software solutions for Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR). This partnership emphasizes managing the hybrid deployment of Continental’s scalable AMR navigation software stack, applicable to various product lines, including Intralogistics and Agriculture. With AWS’s cloud proficiency, Continental has developed a robot autonomy software stack, partnering with the AWS Prototyping and Cloud Engineering (PACE) team to expedite innovation and implement the initial version of this solution.
Key Highlights:
- Continental’s expertise in AMR technology combined with AWS cloud capabilities
- Development of a scalable AMR navigation software stack
- Enhanced features like remote debugging, monitoring, and AI-supported safe navigation
- Successful initial deployment in Intralogistics environment
- Future rollout in Agriculture sector by end of 2024
The collaboration enables customers to manage deployments more efficiently throughout the robot’s lifespan. Key features include remote debugging, monitoring, and streamlined deployment qualification processes, realized through detailed simulations. The software stack also supports on-demand computing for AI modules, aiding in safe navigation.
Rahul Singh, Global Head of AMR Software at Continental, stated, “AWS’ solutions and services will help us to deliver state-of-the-art Autonomous Mobile Robots with outstanding safety and reliability.” The platform has been successfully deployed in initial customer use cases within the Intralogistics environment, aiming to bring an industry-leading experience for deployment and operations to more customers.
Adrian De Luca, Director of Cloud Acceleration for Asia, Pacific, and Japan at AWS, added, “Our collaborative work with Continental across various areas demonstrates that through the power of the cloud and AWS‘ deep industry knowledge, we can help customers unlock the true potential of Autonomous Mobile Robots for their industries.”
Comprehensive AMR Solutions:
Continental’s AMR solutions integrate robot hardware, advanced autonomy software, and AI-enabled fleet management software. By utilizing AWS services, Continental Mobile Robots is creating a cloud-based platform for managing Mobile Robots, providing flexibility for customers to tailor solutions to their industry needs. This platform is developed by a global team of experts from Continental Mobile Robots, supported by AWS’s advanced capabilities like serverless computing, analytics, machine learning, and Internet of Things (IoT).
AMR Applications in Intralogistics and Agriculture:
Continental Mobile Robots, part of Continental’s Automotive Group Sector, focuses on two primary product lines: Intralogistics and Agriculture. The Intralogistics AMR is already deployed at various automotive and industrial sites across Europe, Asia, and North America, addressing critical challenges such as improving material flow speed, minimizing errors, and reducing labor shortages and operational costs.
The Agriculture solution, set to be available by the end of 2024, features a modular autonomous carrier vehicle designed for controlled-environment agriculture. This vehicle can be equipped with various implements from the partner network to perform tasks such as ultraviolet light treatment, selective harvesting, and scouting activities.
Continental’s collaboration with AWS is poised to drive innovation and large-scale adoption of Mobile Robots across diverse industries, enhancing efficiency and operational capabilities.
